Whims Discipleship Update February 2024

One of the great blessings of the Christian walk is looking back and seeing what God has done through us, be it in difficult or untroubled circumstances.

Of course we only get to see a small picture but those pictures can be what spurs us on in our obedience to what He has called us to do in the future.

One such example starts back in August 2024, I had the blessing with my son Tanner to be in Kenya and see the celebration of over a 100 students from the Equip to Serve discipleship training including some from an on-line course that had been meeting together for over 2 years. From that class we had participants from surrounding East Africa countries including: Rwanda, The Congo, Uganda and Tanzania. The classes had been challenging with different languages, internet connections and time differences but we had persevered and completed our goal. Praise God!!!

Now, since August it has been very encouraging to see from their reports how these disciples are putting into practice what they have learned and to train other Christians to be disciple makers in their countries and communities. (Maybe this is how Paul felt when he received reports from the churches he had planted during his first missionary trip).

In February Gerald & Steven from Uganda travelled to the Uganda/South Sudan border to train pastors who minister to the refugee camps. There is now plans to visit 5 more times to continue the training and follow-up on the participants.

In Tanzania Pastor Peter with the support of our team in Kenya led by Sylvester put on a training for a group of Pastors from different parts of Tanzania. He will spend much of the rest of year going to each of the Pastor's churches to train and follow-up.

In the Congo Pastor Makku has been travelling 650km by bus to Bakavu once a month to train churches to make disciples.

And, In Rwanda Pastor Victor has started the first ETS group in Rwanda and is helping a team translate the material into KIrwanda for the local people to have the training in their own language.

These men and their teams are such a blessing and encouragement. Please pray for each of these men and the opportunities that each of them has to make disciples, who make disciples.

I would appreciate prayers for our Tuesday night ETS class, locally, as we are focusing on sharing our faith and on the students beginning to lead the discipleship classes. Pray also for the Thursday morning with the men from India, Bangladesh and Nepal. Particularly, pray for Cornelius who is going to begin leading discipleship training at the Bible School where his father is the Director.

Upcoming activities include the 1/2 day of prayer at Crossridge Church in Surrey on March 9 and a Retirement Celebration via zoom on March 16 for George Baarschers, our Founding Director. Go to for more details: https://www.discipleshipint.org/get-involved. From March 19-29 Sterlin and I  will be in the UK meeting with Shahid and his team, the Discipleship Making Movements, regarding the work in Pakistan. Pray for these events and the short term mission trip to the UK that they will be used to further the goal to Make Disciples.

Until all are discipled,

Travis & Jennifer Whims.
