Whims Discipleship Update June 2025

Last week, we hosted our 15th annual Golf and Dinner fundraiser to raise funds for our local and international partners focused on "Making Disciples".

Shahid speaking at the fundraiser

Shahid joined us to speak on the work he leads in P*kistan and the amazing results of intentional discipleship with the Discipleship Making Movements team. The event was a great blessing with great attendance and support raised. Shahid was also in Vancouver for the week and spoke with Crossridge Churches missions team and at the weekly youth night. He also spoke at the Wagner Hills (men's recovery program) Friday service and 19Twenty Church in Vancouver. Our board and staff hosted a dinner at our home and we were able to further get to know this humble man of God and the heart he has for discipling the church in P*kistan. Pray for the continued work that Shahid and his team are doing. It is so encouraging that God brought us together on-line during Covid and we have now seen that investing in one life with the goal of discipleship can have such a far reaching impact.

I have had to postpone my trip to Cuba until the end of September as Valdemar (Director in Mexico) and Irma, who I was going to be travelling with, are dealing with a cancer diagnosis for Irma. Pray for the surgery to remove the cancer and for her to be strengthened in time for going to Cuba in late September.

We are still preparing for the East Africa trip in August/September. Plans are coming together and we are getting excited about the opportunities to meet discipleship students in all three countries we will visit. Please pray for one of our Directors, Sylvester in Kenya as his wife is awaiting Kidney transplant surgery. Thank you for all the support for the trip. The trip budget has been reached for which we praise God for His faithfulness and the faithfulness of His people in giving.

Learning to share the bridge illustration in our dad and sons group

Local discipleship groups include a group with my two youngest sons and another dad and his two sons. We are currently focusing on sharing the gospel and are each praying now for the opportunity to share the bridge diagram with a non-believer. On Thursdays a group of men are currently getting together to share quiet times, discuss the Word and have prayer with one another. Internationally, we have on-line groups on Monday and Tuesday morning, one in Tanzania and one in P*akistan. Pray for Emmanuel who graduated from a recent Equip to Serve class and is now leading a group of men on Mondays. Pray for perseverance and the men would connect in a strong way in their desire to be mature men of God.

This Saturday we are hosting an on-line half day or prayer to unify all our teams in different countries. We will have devotions being shared from leaders in South Asia, India, Kenya and Canada. You are welcome to join us from 8am-12pm on Saturday June 7th!

Until all are discipled,

Travis & Jennifer Whims
