Peka Farming Project Update: Growing Towards Sustainability
We are delighted to share exciting progress on our Peka Farming Project! Thanks to your generous support and encouragement.
Agriculture & Greenhouse:
Our greenhouse has now been successfully installed, and our very first crop of vegetables has been planted. This marks an important milestone in our journey towards creating a sustainable source of food and income to support the children and families we serve.
To ensure the project is well managed and continues to grow successfully, we have also employed a permanent Project Manager along with two labourers. Their dedication and daily oversight will help establish efficient farming practices, maintain the infrastructure, and support the long-term success of the project.
Electrical Installation:
We are also thrilled to announce that, after much anticipation, electricity has finally been connected by the Lesotho Electricity Company. This essential infrastructure will greatly enhance our ability to expand farming operations and improve productivity in the months ahead.
Water Catchment:
As we celebrate these achievements, we are already looking to the next critical phase of the project: developing the spring water catchment system. Securing a reliable water supply is essential to ensure year-round irrigation, particularly during the dry season, and will help us maximize the potential of the greenhouse and surrounding farmland.
The total cost of the spring catchment project is R138,977.00. Once completed, it will provide a dependable water source that will strengthen the long-term sustainability of the farm, secure fresh produce for the children in our care, and increase the farm's capacity to generate income for Beautiful Gate Lesotho's programs.
Every step we take brings us closer to our vision of a self-sustaining farming project that nourishes lives, builds resilience, creates employment within the local community, and transforms lives for generations to come.
Thank you for believing in this vision and for walking this journey with us. Your partnership is helping us cultivate hope—one harvest at a time.
